On Sunday, Tigers bounced right back in the second match of their two game home stand. With another well-organised defensive display they ensured that Solent just couldn't amass enough points to mount a serious challenge.
Taunton edged the first quarter 23 – 19 with six players (Kev Anderson, Tad Gray, Mike Sebire, Joe Mills, Harry Turner and Adam Rickwood) getting on the score sheet. The second quarter started brightly enough with the visitors knocking down a 3-point effort and Joe Randall immediately replying in similar fashion. But, then, both sides struggled to find any attacking rhythm. Tigers only managed 7 more points in the half while Solent did little better with 9 and the game was in the balance at 33 – 31.
After the break, though, Tigers ground the life out of their opponents with a 12 – 3 run, in 7 minutes of basketball in which Solent only managed one scoring shot. In fact, in the whole of the third quarter, Smugglers were held to just 7 points. Meanwhile, on offense, again, this was a team effort with eight Taunton players scoring in the period. In that spell there were glimpses of what coach, Matt Nolan, is encouraging his players to do — move the ball quickly to create quality looks at the basket.
Tigers had leapt into a 51 – 35 lead and taken a decisive grip of the game. Solent managed to get within 8 points at one stage in the fourth quarter, but Taunton were good value for what turned out to be a comfortable win.
