Match Report: Taunton Tigers Under 16 Mens Team — 5 November 2006

Taunton Tigers vs Tamar Valley Cannons

Taunton Tigers U16s travelled to Plymouth to face the Tamar Valley Cannons in what was to be there toughest test yet. The game was made even more important seeing that Tamar beat Abingdon away from home the previous night.

Tigers' offence throughout the whole game never clicked fully, there were brief spells when it came together and Tigers looked the much better team, but in all it will be a tough week in practice to iron out the difficulties. Tigers went in at half time 9 points the better after the players upped there anti on defence, players off the bench brought with them energy that was much needed.

The 3rd quarter was a scrappy affair with Tamar scrapping themselves back into the game winning the 50/50 balls and grabbing more rebounds. Tigers entered the 4th with only a 2 point advantage, but with some strong words from Coaches Carter and Scarborough the Tigers defence stepped up once again with players now fighting for the win and scrapping for the loose balls.

Even though the performance was not up to the teams standards, the boys should be proud of how they kept their nerve under the full court pressure and the way players coming off the bench were able to contribute, in particular Nicky Gratton and Ed Mortimer. Scott Speed once again showed his value in big games with a game high of 20 points. The win also ensured that Tigers are the only team that has a 100 percent record so far in the league.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 61 – 55 Tamar Valley Cannons
