Match Report: Taunton Tigers Under 16 Mens Team — 6 January 2007

Taunton Tigers vs Abingdon Eagles

This was built up to be a tough test for the Tigers, a long away trip, first game after Christmas, a team that had the second best record in the league having lost only once all season.

For the first time all season the starting 5 players really came out of the blocks flying, this was especially led by captain Sean Clifford who over the last couple of games is starting to step into the higher levels of performance, Clifford was accompanied by Joe Randall who converted well offensively, and by George Williams whose all-round game impressed the coaches. With the Eagles slow back on defence the Tigers fast break was easily able to convert. Every player coming off the bench easily fitted into the game. It was pretty much the same story over the first 3 quarters with the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter extended to 33 points.

The last quarter showed glimpses from the Eagles but it was more down to the Tigers not moving their feet quick enough on defence and the lack of movement on offence. The Tigers ran out easy winners by 25 points, the team can take heart from the fact they remain unbeaten, top of the league, but with the quarter final match against Reading Rockets coming up this Sunday a lot of work needs to still be done on defence. Overall a good win.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 82 – 57 Abingdon Eagles
