Match Report: Taunton Tigers Mens Team — 31 October 2010

Taunton Tigers vs ABC Gwent

The U18s opened their Southwest Conference campaign with two a victory, when they travelled to play Gwent in their first league game of the 2010/11 season.

The team crossed the Severn River Bridge on Halloween and came home with the candy in a convincing 89 – 45 win over ABC Gwent. The appropriately dressed orange and black team spooked the opposition in the first quarter by flying out to a 19 – 7 lead. From then on, it was not a matter of how, but by how many?

Still, the Tigers made some hard work for themselves by not hustling back on defence and allowing a succession of layups. When the halftime whistle went head coach Cam Seeley shook the team up with a pointed half-time speech in which he asked his charges to step back on the gas. The squad responded through a much harder effort and put the game out of the reach of the hosts with a game sealing 28 – 12 fourth quarter.

Despite some early foul trouble, Captain Mark Schroeder led the attack with 27 points. First year guard Louis Ubaka showed he will be a force in his first year of U18 ball by getting to the rim and hitting from the outside and scoring 21 on the day.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 89 – 45 ABC Gwent
