Taunton Tigers exited the National Shield last weekend after putting up a big first half performance against the much fancied Newham Neptunes. The Tigers started the game brightly on the defensive end with Richard Anderson and Michael Sebire getting physical with the much bigger Neptunes players.
Eventually the Tiger began to find a rhythm and traded baskets through Harry Turner and George Scarborough both showing their versatility by scoring from all over the court. With the Neptunes holding a slender lead at half time it was the third quarter that would decide the game; the Tigers came out flat allowing the experience and athleticism of the opposition to force errors which the Neptunes converted.
Going into the fourth quarter the Tigers looked out of the game but with a change of defence and some spirited performances from two juniors in Adam Lewis and Hayden Allen the Tigers began to claw their way back into the game.
As time began to run away and with the Neptunes making big shots down the stretch the Tigers could not close the gap, losing the match 59 – 76.
