Tigers moved up to 3rd in Division 4 SW with this convincing away win.
At the end of the first quarter Taunton led by a slender 5 points and, although the lead had been extended to 12 points at the half, the game was still very much alive at 46 – 32. It was in the 3rd quarter, that Cornwall were blown away. An excellent defensive effort restricted the Cougars to just 9 points in the period, and the game was effectively won. The 63 – 41 advantage taken into the final quarter never looked like being overturned, and the Tigers cruised to victory.
Everyone on the team played plenty of minutes and contributed to the win. Having travelled for 3 hours to make the game, Ashley Palmer shot the ball excellently and top scored with 24 points. Captain, Joe Saunders, overcame illness to lead the team, and he received great support from the experienced Matt Nolan (making his debut for the side).
Coach Gary Carter was particularly pleased with the squad's approach to the game.
“We played at a good, high tempo again today, but we were much more patient than we have been and we're starting to get really good looks at the basket. No-one typified that approach better than Chris Mullans — he showed great maturity on court.”
