Match Report: Taunton Tigers Under 14 Boys Team — 28 January 2012

Taunton Tigers vs Surrey Heat


After a close three point win at home the previous weekend, the Taunton Tigers under 14's set off on a three hour road trip to Surrey. The nine man Tigers team was missing two key players, with another playing injured.

After a short warm up, the starters took to the court. A quick period of good defence from the tigers, and a strong three point play from Dom Robinson got the game rolling. The home team scored shortly after, however the visitors led 12 – 4 by that point after an impressive run. This consisted of some great offensive play by Toby Finch-Hatton and Zak Elogab, together scoring a quick 8 points. Great defence from the team finished the quarter 21 – 10.

To open the second quarter, Robbie Adams, Toby Finch-Hatton and Ellis Watkins together scored a massive total of 16. Awesome defence from the rookies in the team, Harry Sheehan and Alex Jenkins lead to another big push in points. A huge rejection by Jack Adams enabled us to finish the half with a 19 point lead.

Surrey started the second half with all guns blazing and forced Tigers to call a time out with a reduced 16 point lead. However after a big motivating speech by coach Watts, the Tigers started to get it together. Though there was some early foul trouble for a few starters, Jake Stidson, Zak Elogab and Dom Robinson piled on thirteen points to finish the quarter 55 – 32.

To start the fourth quarter, a great inbound from Jack Adams to Robbie Adams, lead to a beautiful basket from Alex Jenkins. More great defence from Harry Sheehan and Jake Stidson lead to some easy steals however when the Tigers got to the hoop they found it hard to finish. The home team pulled back the lead to only 12 but then a great fast break basket from Alex Jenkins got it all going again. The game finished with a 16 point win to the tigers. Two player finished with a season high of 16, Zak Elogab and Toby Finch-Hatton.
