Match Report: Taunton Tigers Mens Team — 6 March 2010

Taunton Tigers vs Leicester Warriors

“This part of the season is about getting our mindset and execution ready for the play–offs, and really understanding our team roles and objectives. If we do that we can beat anybody in the league.”

That was the forward–looking message from Tigers' head coach, Tom Kambouris, after he had just seen his team claim another very impressive away victory.

Tigers' record this season bears out the coach's confidence. Leicester Warriors, who were standing in 3rd place in the league going into the match, became the 9th side (of the 11 in the division) that Taunton have beaten so far in this campaign.

Kambouris's players had prepared well for this fixture and the victory was built on the whole team sticking to the collective game plan and individual assignments. After an evenly fought first quarter, which Leicester just edged 27 – 26, the visiting side really started to put the squeeze on. They turned in a fantastic defensive display in the second quarter and held the Warriors to a mere 6 points in the period.

That gave Taunton an 8 point advantage at the half, and it was still the gap going into the fourth quarter. Leicester couldn't make a dent in the lead in the closing stages and Tigers' self–belief at this vital stage of the campaign will have been boosted by this well–deserved win. Captain, Paul Yabsley led all scorers in the game with 27 points.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 86 – 72 Leicester Warriors
