Match Report: Taunton Tigers Mens Team — 31 January 2010

Taunton Tigers vs Bristol Storm

Tigers climbed to 4th in the table with this comfortable away win against local rivals Bristol Storm. In a relatively low-scoring encounter, the contributions of Joe Mills (who led all scorers in the game with 19 points) and Joe Saunders (17) were vital.

In the first half, although both sides struggled to find offensive fluency against well organised defences, Taunton had slightly more success and held a useful 28 – 22 lead by the mid-way break. In the third quarter the game opened up and it was the visitors who took a decisive advantage. Tigers almost doubled their score in the period and were sitting on a 55 – 39 lead as the final period started.

It was never likely that Bristol would overcome a 16 point deficit in the fourth quarter. A stuttering Tigers offence only managed a further 7 points in the game, though, which meant that they had to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball to secure the win.

Coach, Gary Carter was pleased with the win,

“That was a scrappy game which was hard to evaluate. We didn't execute quite as well as we had hoped, but the win helps us continue our winning streak towards the end of the season.”

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 62 – 52 Bristol Storm
