Against a relatively small Cornwall side, coach Matt Nolan decided to keep Tigers' 6′3″ centre, Jon Orrells, on the bench in this game. He wanted to give the less experienced players in the squad the chance to show that they can take responsibility when called on; they didn't let him down.
Kester Duncan, making his debut and looking lively throughout, scored the first points of the evening and Tigers never looked back. Further points from Dom Hinchliffe, Spencer Gormley and Jack Penny saw them take 15 – 6 lead by the end of the first quarter. Excellent defensive intensity, together with more points from Hinchliffe, Gormley and David Grenfell, stretched Taunton's advantage to 26 – 10 at the half.
The second half was a more even affair but, with Bradley King (also making his first appearance of the season) and Adam Hood getting on the score sheet, Tigers ran out comfortable winners.
