Match Report: Taunton Tigers Under 16 Mens Team — 4 October 2008

Taunton Tigers vs Bristol Academy Flyers

Tigers U16s started their new season off a solid win against local rivals Bristol Flyers. The game for both teams was always going to be a scrappy affair. Both teams throughout looked nervous with simple mistakes occurring.

It was the Tigers more senior players who started to take control of the game with Captain Mark Schroeder (23 Points) starting to dominate around the hoop, showing glimpses of what he could offer to the team. He was joined on the scoring end with Alex Potter and Steve Knight who both contributed well offensively.

Joe De silva and Connor Jones did an excellent job defensively, denying Bristol's better players and stopping them getting started on offense. Louis Ubaka again showed his potential continuously putting the opposition point guards under intense pressure leading to turn-overs which were converted into fast break lay-ups.

Luke Marshall, Josh Davis and Alistair Hinchcliffe all had excellent performances in their introduction to National League Basketball. They will have big roles to play and quick learning will be priceless as the season progresses.

The coaches were really impressed with both point guards,

“Hayden Allen led the team with 8 assists and American Elliot Four showed good control and composure in running the offense. This will be a vital asset to the team in the games coming up.”

There are many things that need to be worked on over the next few weeks with finishing and defensive intensity now becoming a priority. But overall the team had a comfortable win in the end and it was important for the team to get a result under the belt early.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 67 – 49 Bristol Academy Flyers
