Taunton Tigers vs London Westside


Taunton Tigers Women secured there first league win of the season in front of a home crowd on Saturday. Tigers played Westside from London and got off to an impressive start scoring freely from close to the basket which saw them take an early lead. Tigers continued to play intense defence through the 2nd and 3rd quarters limiting Westsides scoring opportunities to difficult shots or their guards having to drive under pressure. The game stayed close right up until the last quarter when Tigers extended an 8 point lead. Westside rallied in the last few minutes but even scoring with a dramatic half way shot in the dying seconds still left them 1 point short of a jubilant Tigers at full time. The final score Tigers 45 Westside 44.

Coach John Abbott said of his players,

“Our sustained individual defence was a real credit and in the end won us the game, although it is still very early in the season and we still have lots more improvements to make the whole squad is really excited about the rest of the season. It's really exciting to be working with such a committed group of players.”

Captain Hannah Watkins along with Vice Captain Laura Dyke led the scoring along with Emily Farthing who has recently returned from the States.
