Taunton Tigers U16s came into the game with Coach Carter and his team wanting a much improved performance from their previous game against Tamar, and in the 1st half the team delivered, especially in the 1st quarter, with an excellent defensive display restricting Southampton to only 7 points. Coach Carter was able to rotate everybody into the game early, and with the offence starting to take shape Southampton had no options to the Tigers movement and ability to get good looks both inside and outside. Jack Murphy was able to show his offensive prowess with an excellent 12 points which included two 3 pointers.
With the game effectively over at half time Tigers seemed to take their foot off the peddle and the game ended closer than it should have. Coach Carter reminded his players the importance of being able to close out games but not to relent up on the pressure.
Overall it was a very good all-round performance, but to really go far this season a full game performance is needed on a more consistent level. The win gave Tigers there fifth straight victory taking them top of the league.
The team face Tamar again at home in the dome on Saturday 18th November in the cup, tip off 12:15. With Sam Hardy back from an injury lay off team selection will again be very tough.
