Taunton Tigers Under junior Jonathan Orrels has been selected to represent England in the forth coming Tournament in Italy in April and has been the only representative from the South West region to be picked—a fantastic acheivement! More details on www.englandbasketball.co.uk.
With 11 wins and just 1 loss the Taunton Tigers under 18 men have secured 1st place in the National League South West Conference and earned themselves a home draw in the first round of the Play-offs.
On the final weekend of the regular season the under 18 men defeated TG Cirencester College Jets—who finished 4th in the league—twice, at home on Saturday and away on Sunday to be officially crowned league winners. They will now play the runners up from the South II Conference, Guildford Heat at home, on Saturday 26th March in the first round of play-offs.
The Taunton Tigers are Division 4 South West Champions! Securing top place in the league when they travelled to Worthing to Play Chichester Thunder in their final league match of the season. Congratulations to all the players and coaching staff. The team are now on a 10 game win streak and will look to carry that into the Play-off competition as they hunt for a promotion place.

Just a few days after Guernsey dropped out of the league, Cornwall too have now also withdrawn, bringing the total number of drop-out teams from Division 4 South West this season, to the grand total of 5!
The Men's team will be crowned league winners this Saturday if they beat Chichester in Worthing. Not only that they will also secure an important home game for the first round of the play-offs.
Division 4 side Guernsey have dropped out of the league leaving Tigers Men's team 2 games less to play. Guernsey are the second team to withdraw from the league this year following Bristol Storm who gave their notice barely a month into the season. Guernsey who travel by plane to Southampton to play their home games cited financial restrictions as their reason for not continuing. This is a blow for the Tigers who were due to play Guernsey another two times, in the run up to the play-offs, causing them to miss out on valuable game practice.
The Men's team travel to play Chichester this Saturday in a game that looks to be the crucial decider for the league title. A win for Tigers will virtually guarantee them finishing in top position for the play-offs.
Taunton Tigers have hit a hugely impressive run of form in their quest for promotion to Division 3 of the England Basketball National League. Since a wobble at the start of the season, when they surprisingly lost their first two matches, they have swept all before them with a 9 game winning streak.

Tigers pulled out a vital win in a tense, nervy battle at Wellsprings on Sunday. They went into the game in top spot with 7 wins and 2 losses, but second placed Reading were right on their tails with a 5 – 1 record. So, both teams knew that the outcome of this one could go a long way to deciding who eventually wins the division and secures home court advantage in the promotion play-offs.

Taunton eased past a dogged, but limited, Gloster side on Sunday to extend their winning streak to seven games. The win keeps them in first place in the division and sets up a mouth-watering clash against second placed Reading University Rockets this weekend.

The Tigers U16s boys had the weekend of their season recording two wins in back to back games on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Tigers hosted the Stroud Sharks. The team actually trailed after one quarter of play before the offence began to fire and they pulled away for a comfortable 81-58 win. All 11 of the boys got on the score sheet.
Tigers travelled to Torbay the next day expecting some tougher opposition, and that's just what they got. The game was neck and neck in the first half before the boys managed to pull out a six point lead before the break. Torbay quickly erased that lead and built one of their own in the third period. With all to play for in the final quarter, Tigers upped the defence and went back in front thanks to three consecutive three point bombs from Ashleigh Grindrod. The hosts were forced to foul in the final minute and Tigers saw out a real nail-biter, 58 – 57.
The U16s have now won three in a row in January after starting the New Year with a loss to Plymouth. They will now play home and away against ABC Gwent and Wiltshire Wolves next weekend as they look to continue to climb the table and challenge for a playoff spot.
The Taunton Tigers Sport England funded primary school Hoops 4 Health community programme culminated this weekend at Somerset College sports hall with a 3 a side tournament referred by Tigers National league players.

On Sunday, Tigers took a huge step towards their aim of securing one of the two play-off spots by thrashing one of their closest rivals for promotion. Chichester had won the first match between these sides this season and, going into the game, Taunton were in second place in the league and Chichester third, so a tense encounter was expected, but that's not how it turned out.

The Tigers U16s are looking to start out the New Year with a bang as they face the 11-0 Plymouth Marjon this Saturday at the Dome.
At 4 – 3 and eighth in the league table, the Tigers are in for a tough test. Plymouth cruised through the first part of the season undefeated and largely not challenged in any of their games. With up to four games in hand on some of the division's top teams, the boys will be looking to knock Marjon off of their pedestal and launch a run to the playoffs.
“No result is dictated by a teams' past results. We will be ready for them physically and mentally and win or lose they will go away knowing that we competed from the tip to the final whistle” says Interim-Head Coach Mark Crncich.
Saturday 8 January at Somerset College 12 – 2pm. The task of adding every Tigers Men's team game video from last season has finally been completed! It is now possible to watch each of the 31 games in full, from the report page of the corresponding game, here on our website. The match reports can be selected by visiting the Men's team page from 2009/10. In the near future we will be looking to add the game videos from 2005/06 season in the same fashion, as well as any from this season that are available.
Taunton Tigers Men's team added another tally to the win chart on Sunday when they beat Team Gloster 71 – 38 in National League Division 4. Currently the senior Tigers team sit 3rd in the table with a record of 3 wins and 2 losses.

Following sundays league win against (previously unbeaten) UWIC, Taunton Tigers under 18's are now the only team in the South West conference to remain undefeated with a record of 5 wins and 0 losses. They hope to continue their winning ways with their last two games of 2010 — both are away, against Cornwall Cougars on December 11 and Cirencester Jets on December 18.
This Sunday features a clash of two undefeated teams at the Dome as the 4–0 Tigers take on the 4–0 UWIC Archers in Southwest Conference play. UWIC posted an impressive win against Plymouth on Saturday 13 November and will be coming to the game in Taunton with confidence. Although Tigers have beaten the Archers three times this season in pre-season and conference play, all the games have been tight and scrappy. The U18s will look to remain undefeated before they wind up their pre-Christmas run-in with road trips to Cornwall and Cirencester.
Tigers Men won their second consecutive league game yesterday when they beat Guernsey away. This win follows last weeks victory over Reading Rockets, a team the Tigers had lost to at the end of September. They will look to build on their current momentum this Sunday when they play Team Gloster Jets at Wellsprings Leisure Centre — Tip-off 15:00.

Taunton Tigers crashed out of the National Shield on Sunday to a very powerful Glamorgan Gladiators team. Tigers (who play in Division 4 of the National League) fought all the way, but they just could not hold the Welsh side which is currently 3rd in Division 3.

With Cup, League and shield matches happening across the club this weekend there was potential for the Tigers to cause some upsets but the teams were unable to deliver. The under 18 Men recorded the only win of the weekend for the club on Saturday when they beat Dorset Storm 75 – 59 in the League.
Sunday saw both the under 16's and under 18's teams have their cup campaigns cut short by local two different local rivals at home. Tigers under 16 men, suffering with injuries, were defeated by Plymouth Marjon 48 – 76 and the under 18's lost to Bristol Academy Flyers shortly after, 71 – 85.
Later, in a physical encounter against division 3 side Glamorgan Gladiators, the Men's team were knocked out of the National Shield when the two teams matched up at Somerset College. An early lead for Tigers was quickly eclipsed by Glamorgan, who pushed on to go up 14 by the end of the first quarter. Tigers made runs throughout the game, managing to cut the deficit to 6 points late in the 3rd but were unable to hold onto the momentum. Glamorgan claimed the win 75 – 84.
Taunton Tigers under 16's player Jonathon Orrells has reached the Final 22 Players in the under 16 England squad, as preparations continue for the FIBA Europe U16 European Championship Men Division B 2011. The squad will assemble for a camp in Nottingham on November 27 and 28, following which a team of 12 players will be named to take part in a tournament in Belgium over the Christmas break. Taunton Tigers veteran side, ‘Slapheads’ extended their current winning streak to 5 in a row when they defeated BC Somerset, Wednesday night in the Somerset League. A physical encounter from start to finish Tigers edged BC Somerset 71 – 64 with ex division 1 player Matt Nolan finishing with a personal points tally of 34. Next week sees them play undefeated Bridgwater Bucs, away on Tuesday Night.
Taunton Tigers Men's team will face another challenging opponent this weekend when they play Glamorgan Gladiators — a Division 3 side who are thus far, unbeaten this season. Tigers will be looking to put an end to their run and advance to the next round of the National Shield competition. The game is at Somerset College (Not wellsprings! Due to unavailability) and tip-off is at 5pm.
The under 18 Men's team had another excellent victory at the weekend when they defeated Plymouth Marjon 76 – 59 in the league. An early lead for Tigers was eaten away by Plymouth during the 2nd and 3rd quarters but a strong finish ensured they kept their undefeated record so far this season.

The team will face their next challenge this weekend with a double header fixture against Dorset Storm in the League and Bristol Academy Flyers in the National Cup — Saturday and Sunday respectively. Sundays match is at home and will tip-off at 1pm following the under 16 Men's fixture against Plymouth Marjon at 11am — which is also in the National Cup — both games will be played at the Huish Dome.

The Under 16 Mens team game this coming saturday (06.11.10) against ABC Gwent has been cancelled due to the opposition being unable to make the tip-off time and the unavailability of referees for a later tip-off time. Both teams have agreed to reschedule the game at a later date which will likely be on Saturday 29 January 2011.
The Taunton Tigers Mens game this coming Sunday (07.11.10) against Gloster Jets in National League Division 4 has been cancelled due to unfinished heating works at the venue — Somerset College. The game will be rearanged and we will update you when this has been confirmed. They are still in action at home, on Sunday 14 November against Glamorgan Gladiators in the second round of the National Shield. The game is at Wellsprings Leisure Centre and tip-off is at 15:00.
Tigers came back empty handed from their trip to Reading, and have now lost both their opening games in this season's National League campaign. In truth, though, this was another game that they could so easily have won.

Slapheads travelled away to last seasons treble winning Yeovil Jets. The Jets had knocked the Slapheads out of the league in the semi final last season. This contest required no extra motivation and it proved to be a thrilling contest.

The Tigers U18 men have a clear goal for the 2010/11 season: Promotion. The team was disappointedly relegated to the South West Conference at the end of last season, but are looking to bounce right back into Premier South competition. A strong line-up includes four returning seniors and six first-years that have all come out of the U16 squad along with two new recruits.

Tigers booked themselves a place in the 3rd round of National Shield with this revenge victory and first win of the season, against local rivals Plymouth Marjon. Having suffered an agonising 2 point defeat against the same opponents a fortnight ago, in the National Cup, it was a motivated Tigers side that travelled to Plymouth for a re-match. They will play at home in the next round on Sunday 14 November, matching up against Glamorgan Gladiators.

Tigers under 16 and under 18 men earned themselves an extra match each after two impressive victories in the England Basketball National Cup this weekend. Wins over Torbay (Under 16s) and UWIC (Under 18s) means both Tigers junior teams will play again at home, in the next round on Sunday 14 November.
We have just received notification that Bristol Storm have withdrawn from the league due to financial pressures on their club. This means that the game scheduled for Sunday 15 October will no longer go ahead and has been cancelled. Our next Mens home game will not be until 5 December.
So the the Division 4 Mens team lost narrowly at the weekend, but they put on a good performance to stay in the game after being down by over 10 points around mid–way. It was good to see players that have come through the junior teams playing at senior level and doing well, such as George Scarbrough and Mark Schroeder. Mark had one particularly memorable moment which I managed to find in the footage from the game. See the video below.
After last seasons success on the court in National League Division 1 the Club has had to reshape and restructure. The resignation of the committee and a huge debt announced at the AGM, combined with the retirement from National League basketball of 3 key players, job relocations, players moving away to college and last years Coach Tom Kambouris no longer able to commit to coaching, the Club was left with decisions to make.
